The following is an authentic exhibit of the County expenses for the year ending, June last. And the tax-payer may well ask where it has gone, and for what! We have no precise data as to the amount required in former times, but are inclined to think it was scarce more than half of what it is under radical rule:

In account with Jefferson County, W. Va.

June 20, To balance due County on Levy of 1865 $193.73
June 20, Amount of Sheriff's receipts on Levy of 1865 , 1,617.84
June 20, Balance due 98.32
[Total] $18,909.89
1867 .
June 20. By Commissions on $18,617.84 $555.53
June 20. County orders pd. 18,351.36 $18,909.89
Balance due Treasurer, $98.32
